About Us

What started out as a hobby for father and son duo Hart and Con Pekrul of Plain View Winery turned into a full-time career. It all happened in the 1980's when they had a bumper crop of berries in the garden. Living on their farm in Goltry, Hart's late wife Barbara suggested they make a batch of strawberry wine.

A single batch grew into a series of experiments with all different kinds of fruits: Cherry, blackberry, peach, apricot, crabapple and a combination of multiple fruits. As the hobby continued and the recipe was tweaked they found friends an neighbors bringing them baskets of fruits and bottles and placing special requests for wine.

Now, 25 years later, they have the opportunity to share their wines and visit with people from all over the United States. By the fall of 2001, Plain View Winery was born. Plain View Winery is nestled in Lahoma, on the south side of hwy 412. If you stop in for a visit bring your appetite. "We really need to install a buffet for all of the samples we serve", jokes Con.

Not only do they tempt your taste buds with samples of their fine wines, but they also give samples of the food products that they carry. Guests can try delicious jam, jelly, pickles, buffalo sausage, wine cheese and yogurt cheese. If you are up for a little fun in the kitchen, Con can send you home with a lot of inspirational cooking ideas. With 12 years of restaurant experience and great guidance in the kitchen from his mother as he was growing up, Con is a great chef. He enjoys cooking with wine - adding jalapeno wine to baked beans, blackberry wine to sautéed mushrooms, strawberry wine to white cake...and more! The possibilities are endless when it comes to the wines available at Plain view Winery.

Plain View Winery is best known for it's Black Strawberry wine. It's a blend of strawberry and blackberry and offers good flavor for dessert - Con recommends pairing it with dark chocolate for a true taste sensation.

For Raspberry lovers, Plain View is pleased to offer a new Raspberry Wine. The wine is a rosy-blush color with a delightful fresh raspberry flavor!

Con is a fan of the Blackberry Grape Wine. "This is probably the wine I am the most proud of", says Con. "You can enjoy this wine anytime - before a meal, with a meal, after a meal and with dessert." Con has great ideas for pairing wines with specific types of meals, but the sweet mild bouquet of this wine makes it suitable for almost any pairing.

Hart and Con smile as they reminisce about one fruit flavor that did not pan out. "Mom & Sandy (Con's late wife) really loved watermelon and wanted us to try a watermelon wine. It was awful - it tasted like turpentine!", says Con. That was the last time they tried that flavor!

The average batch of wine takes roughly 140 days to make - from start to finish. Some take a little more or less depending on the type of fruit or concentrate that is used.

Plain View Winery offers gift certificates and can label the bottles with empty labels so you can stamp them with wedding or anniversary message, if desired.

Stop by and visit and bring an appetite. You'll love the wine, the food and the people at Plain View winery.
